Damien B. Schlarb earned his Ph.D. in English from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. He works as an Assistant Professor for American Studies (limited term) at Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany, where he teaches courses in American literature and culture. His research interests include American literary romanticism, Early American Literature, the critical reception of historical Bible Studies, and Digital Game Studies. His first book, Melville’s Wisdom: Religion, Skepticism, and Literature in Nineteenth-Century America (Oxford University Press, 2021), discusses Herman Melville’s engagement with biblical moral philosophy. His new research project examines the various notions of work in video games.
