Kristian Katzenberger is Principal Horn of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony (hr-Sinfonieorchester) and Professor of Horn at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin under Prof. Marie Luise Neunecker.
From 2016 to 2020, he served as Principal Horn of the Frankfurt Opera- and Museum Orchestra before joining the Frankfurt Radio Symphony in the same position in 2021. In 2014, he was awarded a scholarship at the German Music Competition and selected for the national concert series “Bundesauswahl Konzerte Junger Künstler.” He was also a scholarship holder of the Villa Musica Foundation in Rhineland-Palatinate.
As a sought-after guest musician, he has performed with leading ensembles such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Staatskapelle Berlin, working with renowned conductors including Herbert Blomstedt and Daniel Barenboim. Alongside his orchestral work, he is an avid chamber musician, having collaborated with artists such as Maximilian Hornung and Lars Vogt. He has appeared at festivals including the “Spannungen” chamber music festival in Heimbach and toured the United States with the Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic.
Since 2024, Kristian Katzenberger has held the position of Professor of Horn at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz.
