Aurelija Tamošiūnaitė is a lecturer (Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben) at the Department of Northern European and Baltic Languages, where she has been teaching since 2016. She teaches various BA and MA courses in sociolinguistics, discipline-specific writing, Lithuanian culture, and Lithuanian as a foreign (and heritage) language. She obtained her PhD in Slavic and Baltic Languages and Literatures (majoring in Lithuanian linguistics) at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2011. Prior to her current position, she was affiliated with Vytautas Magnus University (2012-2014). Her main research interests focus on different aspects of sociolinguistic history of written Lithuanian, with particular attention to orthographic variation and change in Lithuanian ego-documents during the long nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Since 2008, she has been involved in the development of the Private Lithuanian Letters Database (www.musulaiskai.lt) in collaboration with colleagues in Lithuania and the United States.
