I am interested in how non-genetic mechanisms - such as DNA methylation - can affect the evolution of clonal species. I currently work with the Giant Duckweed (Spirodela polyrhiza), which has low genetic diversity and reproduces clonally, allowing epigentic marks to be inherited. To identify this inheritance I use abiotic (copper, herbicides, salt) and biotic (aphid herbivory) oxidative stress, which induces changes in the phenotype that can be followed for several generations.
